My  interest in Medicine started in a less than typical route for most physicians.  I began pursuing a potential career in Veterinary Medicine during my high school and college years.  I worked in an emergency veterinary clinic in the suburbs of Washington, DC and did clinical and laboratory research on beef cattle while attending Virginia Tech.  I was President of the Pre-Vet Club and was scheduled for my interview to attend Vet School when I realized that I wanted more out of my love of medicine.  As a high school student, I spent many years as a student volunteer, and later as a director, of a summer camp for underprivileged kids and winter camp that served mentally-challenged kids and adults.  I truly enjoyed those experiences and believed I needed to incorporate my interest in medicine with my love of serving others.  So my career goals changed and in 1989, I attended the Medical College of Virginia.

While attending medical school, I was initially interested in Pediatrics.  As I did my clinical years, I realized how much I enjoyed working with all ages.  So, when I began deciding on where to attend residency, I felt that a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics program was the ideal fit for me.  I matched with Geisinger Medical Center in central Pennsylvania and couldn’t have found

a better program for training.  Geisinger is a large hospital program that not only allowed me to learn state-of-the-art tertiary care, but also to provide comprehensive primary care for the surrounding community.  The attending staff that trained the residents were there because they truly enjoyed teaching and that dedication to medical education is the key to the program’s success.  I truly believe that medicine is a career built on life-long learning and so, after my four years of training, I stayed on as the Pediatric Chief Resident.

Finally, in 1998 I arrived in Lewes and joined a well-established Family Practitioner, Susan Rogers, with plans of taking over her practice since she intended to relocate to Florida.  I started my practice, Atlantic Adult and Pediatric Medicine (AAPM) in September 1999 and retained a large portion of Dr. Roger’s original patients while continuing to build the practice.  I’ve been fortunate enough to have excellent clinicians and staff over the years.  My current staff  includes two of the best Nurse Practitioners that I’ve had the honor to work with and a very dedicated, friendly staff.  We are truly a family at AAPM and strive to provide the best of care to our patients.
